The Prevalence of PPNG and Some Attributable Factors in Seoul

Abstract
For the detection of more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visit the VD Clinic of Choongku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980.
In 1981, the prevalence of PPNG was 21.9%. Since then, it had rapidly increased and reached to 56.0% in 1988. But this rapid increasing trend was not seen after 1988.
The prevalence of PPNG in 1989 was 56.8% and it falled below 50% in 1990.
Earlier, rapid increase of the prevalence of PPNG may be related to the high stability of the R-plasmid in Seoul, and later stationary or decrement of the prevalence of PPNG may be associated with the changing regimen to gonococcal infection, the
subsequent loss of selective advantage of PPNG to penicillin and specially trained physician's efforts for the complete treatment of PPNG induced urethritis.
